About the Program

Empowering youth to engage in policy making and negotiations is imperative in today's world. The Climate Reality Project India & South Asia is collaborating with partners who share a commitment to nurturing the next generation of climate leaders. Through "Youth 4 COP," our aim is to equip young minds with essential skills and empower them to contribute to a better future for all. Today's youth are the stewards of our planet, holding the key to effecting meaningful change. Our program seeks to provide young participants with a deeper understanding of COP processes and deliberations. They will be trained to articulate their ideas, concerns, and solutions effectively, ensuring their voices are heard. Furthermore, they will learn how to navigate the complexities of the COP platform, preparing them to actively participate in future deliberations. This pioneering initiative endeavours to cultivate leadership skills among youth participants encouraging them to ignite change through capacity building workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions, and networking opportunities.

Mission

REPORT COP PROCESS ON DIVERSE MEDIA PLATFORMS

Utilise media tools to engage with global youth.

Lead digital campaigns (blog posts, social media) to disseminate information on COP proceedings (day to day action, as it happens), as well as their implications and local scenarios.

Program Structure

Registration

Interested students can register for the ‘Youth 4 COP’ program for FREE by clicking on the registration link on this website. The registration form requires the students to fill their basic information and upload a passport size photo. The students need to submit a one page (max. 300 words) cover letter sharing details of past involvement in national or international events/workshops/conferences/on-ground climate action, including participation in climate policy making and negotiations, if any.

Capacity Building Workshops

Selected students will undergo capacity building workshops. The workshops will feature expert-led online sessions that provide insights into the latest developments and strategies. These experts, having participated in COPs in various capacities, bring a wealth of experience. Participants will engage with real-world case studies, interactive debates, hands-on training, and assignments designed to foster critical thinking and practical skills. Additionally, field projects will offer opportunities to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.

Assessment and Evaluation

The assessment and evaluation process will thoroughly examine participants' performance throughout the training program, using a comprehensive set of criteria. This will include evaluating their critical thinking abilities, consistency in attendance, and the quality of their assignment submissions. Additionally, participants' communication skills and negotiation abilities will be scrutinised to ensure they meet the program's high standards. This rigorous evaluation aims to provide a holistic understanding of each participant's strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring they are well-prepared for future climate action leadership roles.

Awards and Certification

All the participants in the Youth 4 COP Training Program will be awarded a certificate of participation. The top 15 performers will receive certificates of achievement and are given the opportunity to report on COP proceedings and updates for Climate Reality’s website and social media platforms, providing them with international exposure. Additionally, students from universities or colleges receive special recognition from the Climate Reality Project-India & South Asia for their contributions to fostering climate action leadership.

Engagements during COP

The participants will get an opportunity to engage directly with global leaders, climate experts, and policymakers, gaining invaluable insights and contributing to critical discussions on climate action. This unique opportunity not only broadens their horizons but also enhances their understanding of international climate negotiations and policies. By participating in these high-level engagements, they will be equipped with the knowledge and experience needed to become influential advocates for environmental sustainability. Through social media reporting and updates, they will gain visibility among the negotiators and have a chance to understand their perspectives on policy making. This experience will enable them to connect with key stakeholders, amplify their voices, and play a significant role in shaping the future of climate policy.

Post COP Event

The Post-COP Event will serve as a platform for in-depth discussions on key decisions made during the Conference of the Parties (COP). Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and insights gained from attending COP, fostering a collective understanding of the challenges and opportunities in addressing climate change. Additionally, participants will collaborate in crafting a roadmap for future COPs, outlining priorities, strategies, and objectives to guide international climate negotiations in the coming years.
